A couple of years back I enjoyed Mr. Hauschildt’s album “Strands” quite a lot, but thereafter I lost track of his other stuff. Only recently, I stumbled upon the 2025 “Aeropsia” of this Cleveland native, a release exploring themes of perceptual distortion, disconnection, and renewal. The thoughtful mix of ambient, cosmic, contemporary classical, and intuitive/shimmering electronic music making up “Aeropsia” (which translates as “seeing the air”) is another most interesting one deserving as well as demanding attentive listening. The outcome is visceral, spacious and transparent, transporting the listener to various alternate realities. Along its journey, it displays some lovely melancholic, sombre and transcendental undercurrents on various passages like “Dividua” or “Inertia & Refugia”, and this is also where a sense of loneliness feels near. The sequencer-driven “Forgetting in the Static” is another emotive gem merging mesmerizing electronics and cello in a most sophisticated manner. And there’s the 21-minute outro “Amongst Automata” where (Steve Roach-kindred) captivating ambient atmospheres unfold and expand fluidly but also profoundly. Pity though, the latter track of this very nice and well-engineered release only comes with the digital download of the album. Still, thumbs up, Steve!
