Suzanne Ciani – History of my Heart

CD/Lp, Private Music, 1989

The gentle, melodic, and classical arrangements found on Ciani’s album “The Velocity of Love” continue on this album. Aside from stronger New Age flavors, this time the electronics are paired further with a piano approach and various classical instruments, delivering inspired pieces like “Anthem”, “Inverness”, “Eagle”, “Mozart”, or “Drifting”. Aside from that, the feminine approach and romanticism remain present all the time, but I imagine this soft, laid-back side (as well as the rather dated sound) may put off some listeners as well. The track “Jacques” -as well as the sax on a few pieces- did that for me.

A full piano-only rendition of “Anthem”, found at the tail of the album, would later end up on Private Music’s “Piano One” sampler.

You can see what reviews I have done of this artist on the Suzanne Ciani artist page.
