This album by self-taught, studio-based musician David T. Dewdney, aka Syn, consists (again) of older tracks all created through improvisation, applying mostly analogue equipment. Assorted vintage Berlin School electronics, sequences, and mellotron textures make up all six parts on the album, seeing the artist’s cosmic sound move between classic TD and Schulze while throwing in some retro Jarre and Vangelis bits as well, occasionally. Overall, the outcome is evolving in a calm, slow progressive sense, though “Part 4” turns out a tad more active and spaced-out. The final two parts celebrate Old School electronics to the fullest, blending space sounds, sequencer patterns, vintage synth tapestries, and some smooth soloing. On “Part 5”, a vibe of Schulze’s “Timewind” shimmers through nicely. In 2013, Syn re-released “Sonus” in remastered form and an altered cover design through his own website. Note: “Sonus part 3” and “Sonus part 6” reappeared on Syn’s album “Soundwave Traveler” and “Thru the Syngate” respectively. |
