Tangerine Dream – Booster
CD, Eastgate, 2007

The ongoing list of new contemporary electronic music and re-released/reworked cds put out by Edgar Froese under the Tangerine Dream-moniker has increased rapidly over the last five years or so.
Sadly enough, they almost all proved to me the quality and soul of the music has deteriorated in the same speed, mostly ending in something superficial.

Luckily enough, there’s “Booster”, offering a compilation of the tracks found on several limited edition EP’s that were released at concert events, plus some additional tracks.

Listening to the 16 tracks, it becomes clear Edgar Froese has found his way back to true emotion, pleasure and mature composition in music, as it’s a feast to dig the reworked music presented here, as the original feel and vibe of the originals has been well preserved.
The sequencer patterns are attractive and well done as are the thick, compelling and multi-layered sound textures and driving rhythms supporting them.
The first disc ends with a re-recorded version of “Logos”, while one finds two previously unreleased tracks (“All thirsty angels pass” and “Big sur and the oranges from Hieronymus Bosch”) on the second disc.
All in all, “Booster” makes a well-compiled and recommended release.
