This release comes in the same audio format as “The 4 Elements: Water & Air” and also has the exact same playing time (75.04). Again, listeners are invited into an aural landscape of smooth evolving mood music sketching out warm ambient atmospheres with an occasional slight Blade Runner vibe. “Fire” is made up of gentle evolving and shifting pads mixed now and then with subtle sequencing, but it’s a pity the composer couldn’t resist adding some weak-sounding preset sax and fretless bass sounds on a few sections, something that already annoyed me on TiRa’s “Endless Ambient” series. “Earth” takes off with rather uninspired soundscapes, but things get far more interesting with the calm, gentle meandering textures making up “Part II” and “Part III”. “Part V” introduces some rhythm and subtle thunder beats, but I can’t say it is very appealing to my ears. From there, things drift onward in a rather superficial and simple manner, it’s almost chill-out. The improvised flute bits don’t make a difference, nor do the sequenced sections. The last part is more active due to the drums, but also ends abruptly (which must be to make the track stick to the same duration). Overall, I feel the outcome proves neither meat nor fish. |
