Tony Gerber is an American who has been making music for years prior to this debut release. Among other things, he played keyboards on Giles Reaves’ great album, “Sea of Glass”, who in turn contributed to this album, along with a number of other electronic composers unknown to me. Tony plays keyboards, guitar, and harp, and his dreamy music has a subdued, relaxed, and slightly spacey character. The ingenious use of the harp in his music is particularly atmospheric. In terms of style, it sometimes sounds a bit like Giles Reaves, but it does not quite reach his level. The closing track “After the Harvest” is, alongside “Lunar Crossing” (recorded live with Giles Reaves), the best this album has to offer. Recommended for those into space music. “Blue Western Sky” became the album of the year in 1996 for the Nashville Music Awards. |
