Walter Christian Rothe & Friends – Centillion 303
CD, Groove Unlimited, 2009

In June 2006, when I and some collegues were producing E-dition magazine, I did an interview with Walter Rothe and his Pillion partner Guy2D. Then, the “new” album “Halcyon” was mentioned.
As far as I knew, it never was released afterall. After a long wait, something else is available, but only as download from Musiczeit (although I think it should have been a hardcopy release after all).

Nevertheless, “Centillion 303” is a double album of which disc 1 contains parts 1-10 as split tracks, while the second one features the 56-minute original master All in One Suite.
The album itself, composed in 2008, is escibed as a concept composition in 10 parts, a soundtrack to a failed space journey to a distant star system. Starting out with soft vocoder singing, “Centillion 303” soon evolves in classic electronic music with sparkling vintage sequencing and soloing, lots of mysterious, spacious realms and occasional violin by Anton Sjarov.

Elements of classic Tangerine Dream and Schulze are evident in the cinematic music, complemented with dense, darkening atmospheres and some melodic flavours known from Walter’s previous solo works.
Of all pieces, “Fire and Water” is the perfect vehicle to travel to vintage heaven.

All in all, “Centillion 303” makes a timeless, highly spherical piece of music for space voyagers.
