THORSTEN QUAESCHNING’S PICTURE PALACE MUSIC - Remnants (cd)

THORSTEN QUAESCHNING’S PICTURE PALACE MUSIC
Remnants
CD, Groove Unlimited, 2013
What I got here is the 60-minute original soundtrack album Mr Quaeschning made for the "Remnants" (a beautifully shot documentary of time lapse cine photography about the rise and fall of the Neolithic civilization of Britain) by accomplished UK- cinematographer Grant Wakefield.

As many have also experienced on the many PPM-albums, multi-instrumentalist Thorsten has distilled many fine core elements out of the TD-formulae, extracted and refined them while maintaining the emotive current. Aside from the inclusion of beautifully re-worked versions of the pieces "Drowning Moon" and "The Gretchen Tragedy" (both from the PPM-album "Natatorium"), the release-score is entirely original, also containing extra music that’s not featured in the movie.

Well, the evocative music found on the 11 pieces offers a continuous ride through grand spheres and tantalizing realms, incorporating vintage-flavored pads with warm contemporary textures, e-guitar, drums, flute and some captivating sequencing. The latter is executed spatially and profoundly on the 14-minute, highly energetic "Moon Dial", which takes on a prog-rock shape in the second half. In a live-setting, this track alone will rock the house. It’s great though to see things shift back to tranquil moods after that and see it building up again. This outcome breathes heart and soul.

I learned the factory-pressed, pristine sounding cd release of "Remnants" is a limited edition, so don’t take up too long to get a copy of this vibrant and well-accomplished album.
